BIOGRAPHY

I am a traditional realist in Huntsville, AL. Primarily a portrait artist, I also enjoy painting the figure and still life.

I have wanted to create powerful realist art for as long as I can remember. After graduating from Hussian School of Art as an illustration major in 1996, I worked in various fields of art while trying to teach myself the appropriate techniques. Realizing this was not producing the level of skill I desired, I moved to Florence, Italy, with my wife and infant son to take advantage of the opportunities afforded by the historic wealth of the city and study at the world-renowned Angel Academy of Art. There, I was able to improve my skills in creating representational art by the same types of academic methods taught at L’Ecole des Beaux Arts at the end of the 19th century.

While in Europe, I also spent time studying great masterpieces in the Vatican museums, the Louvre, the Musée d’Orsay, the galleries at the Pitti Palace, and the Uffizi, along with numerous smaller museums. Whenever possible, I intend to continue to travel to the world’s great museums to learn all I can from what has been successfully done, so that I might better succeed at creating something new.
